Teatro degli Arcimboldi, Milan, 18 - 22 January 2017. Once again the dates for the formidable international ice dancing company The Imperial Ice Stars were a sell-out, as they put on “Lo Schiaccianoci on Ice” (The Nutcracker On Ice), a first in Italy. “Lo Schiaccianoci On Ice” portrays the classic ballet through ice skating consisting of smooth choreography, extreme high-speed jumps, astounding pirouettes and astonishing aerial acrobatics. The audience was amazed by the imposing scenery, the extraordinary visual effects, the sumptuous costumes, and last but not least, by the amazement of seeing the stage transformed into an ice rink, which the ballet dancers glided across as they told their timeless tale. The company is composed of 26 champion ice skaters, some Olympic and world champions, who have gained international fame for their artistic, physical and technical prowess. Based on Tchaikovsky's classic The Nutcracker, “Lo Schiaccianoci On Ice”, a first in Italy, is set in Saint Petersburg in 1900, and retells the classic Russian fairy tale of little Maria, whose love brings to life her beloved nutcracker, the magical Christmas present from her mysterious godfather. Thus begin the adventures of the Mouse King, the magical prince and the Sugarplum Fairy.
